Royals want Sigurdsson return

Reading are planning a stunning attempt to try and bring midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson back to the club, according to talkSPORT.

The 22-year old Icelander left the Royals in the summer of 2010 for a club record fee of £6.5 million to German side Hoffenheim. After failing to make a lasting impact in Germany, his former manager and current Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers brought him to the Premier League in January on loan.

In his short spell at the Welsh club, he has shown the same ability and flair that he showed in his two-year tenure at the Madejski Stadium. Sigurdsson has scored seven goals in 14 games for the Swans and is making his name known around Europe, prompting interest from Champions League contenders Arsenal and Newcastle.

However, reports have suggested that Brian McDermott could make an outrageous swoop for the Iceland international. It is unknown whether Gylfi still has a future at Hoffenheim, but with the deep pockets of new potential owner Anton Zingarevich, nothing is impossible.

When the ‘Sig’ left the Berkshire club two years ago, he expressed his disappointment at leaving the club that gave him his big break in football and openly admitted he would love to return to the club at some point during his career.
