Reported Reading target Jermain Defoe has said that he will ‘seriously need to consider his future’ after once again finding himself on the bench under new Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas.
The 29-year old has been linked with a move to the Madejski Stadium numerously over the past month, but Royals Brian McDermott has denied any of these rumours to be true. Premier League rivals QPR and Sunderland are the other sides reportedly interested in the services of Defoe, who could be available for as little as £5 million.
Speaking to West London Sport, he said: ‘Last season was heart breaking for me in terms of putting my body on the line, being prepared to give everything for the club and not getting a game. Obviously I have to think seriously about my future. I will talk to the club and see what happens but right now all I want to do is what is best for Tottenham.”

The only reason I am skeptical about JD’s transfer to Berkshire is due to the fact that he is the only recognised striker on our books (aside from 18 yr old Harry Kane). We will not part with him until we get at least 2 other strikers in. From a Reading perspective, he is the ideal man to partner Pogrebnyak in the “big man/little man” combo up top and is guaranteed to score you goals
As a Spurs supporter I think ‘Alfie’ is a far superior finisher than Defoe so I reckon it would be a waste of good Russian money.
I’ve always liked Defoe as a forward and would naturally welcome this move. However, like you guys have said, surely Spurs would want to keep him as you don’t have many strikers on your books. I suppose he isn’t the sort of striker that can play on his own, so it doesn’t really suit his style.
