Reading have made their second signing of the January transfer window, bringing in Mali international winger Jimmy Kebe, from French side Lens.

The 24 year old is set to sign a two and a half year deal, keeping him at the club until 2010.

Nicky Hammond, Reading’s Director of Football, told ReadingFC.co.uk, ‘Jimmy is a winger who has a bit of pace and is a good size at more than six feet tall. He is right footed but is comfortable on both wings.’

Kebe is currently on loan at French Second Division side US Boulogne, but Hammond is confident the player can make the big step up to the English top flight.

He said, ‘Obviously it’s a massive step up from that level to the English Premier League. But the same could have been said for a number of our players when they first came to the Club.

‘They have made the transition and we hope Jimmy can do the same.’

Reading Chairman John Madejski, also expressed his delight at signing the player, ‘I am very pleased to welcome Jimmy Kebe to Reading Football Club.

‘He is a talented player who I hope will become an important member of our squad’.

Jimmy Kebe joins fellow new sign Marek Matejovsky at the Madejski Stadium and has been given the squad number 30.

With just a few days of the transfer window left, keep up with any more comings and goings here at Vital Reading.

Mmm, French second division, must be good… I’ll reserve my judgement until after he has played, hopefully he’ll get a game on saturday against bolton.

I’ve never heard of him before. I found myself saying who??? Surely a Premiership team should be looking for players with a higher calibre than this? Oh well, none of my business I suppose. I wish the boy well and hope he does good for you.

I agree with you, but saying that, no one has heard of Matejovsky and he looks class, to good for us anyway…
