Royals Release Oster

John Oster is the biggest casualty as the summer clear out at Reading begins.

The midfielder has never really won over the fans and has been somewhat of a scapegoat this season, despite often performing better than some of the more favoured players.

Oster who has made 43 starts for the Royals in his three seasons at the club, is released along with Ulises De La Cruz, John Halls, Graham Stack, Adam Bygrave and Aaron Brown.

None of the releases come as much of a surprise, with Bygrave and Brown yet to make an appearance for the Royals first team.

Meanwhile, Glen Little, Michael Duberry, Ben Hamer and Scott Davies have all been offered new deals.

Little, who was a key part in the Royals Championship winning campaign, has been plagued by injury in the last year, and the new contract offer will be pleasing to both him and the fans.

Michael Duberry may have been axed had the Royals stayed up, but his experience at Championship level will be a huge bonus for the club as they look to bounce straight back to the Premier League.

Hamer and Davies, both 20, have yet to feature in the Reading first team, but are both seen as hot prospects for the future.

Regarding the released players, Reading Director of Football, Nick Hammond, had this to say, ‘I would like to place on record my thanks to all of the players who will be moving on.

‘They have shown great professionalism, and we wish them all the very best for the future.’

Oster’s a better player than many people gave him credit for. Certainly no worse than stephen hunt, and oster’s delivery is miles better. I’m sure someone will snap him up quite quickly, maybe forest or someone like that. De la cruz I’m a bit dissapointed to see leave, good squad player, good attitude, could perhaps of joined the coaching staff. Oh well, good look in the future fellas…

he was a very under rated player IMO and a player who i’d have thought would have welcomed the challenge of regaining promotion. I spose with Little being offered a new deal his days were numbered. Stack and halls were both useless so you are at no loss there. Reading will not appear a far better prospect to players excelling in the championship and lower leagues and hopefully for you, the new breed of young royals will be shifted in before you can say “John Madejski.” – speaking of whom, I saw him on crutches on wednesday? the guy ok?

  • Dave the Yid says:

sorry, should read “reading WILL appear a far better prospect”

Cheers Dave. I think JM is ok, he’s on crutches cos his the sheer weigh of his wallet over the years has given him a limp in his right leg, now if only he’d get it out once in a while… (his wallet I mean obviously)

Shouldn’t take him long to gain another club although it will probably be in CCC and not the premiership.

Oster is a player you need if you are come straight back up. What a waste, so he he is good enough fior prem but not champ dont see the logic in that

  • uroyals says:

I dont think it was that he was good enough for the prem, it was that we didn’t have anyone else to play on the right!
