Royals linked with Welsh international

No, it’s not Gareth Bale I’m afraid, but Sunderland midfielder David Vaughan.

The 30-year old appears to be one of the players to join the major Sunderland exodus this summer, with his current set to run out at the end of the season. The reported fee is £1 million, which is what the Blacks Cats are looking for.

However, there is believed to be interest from two of his former managers in Steve Bruce and Ian Holloway, who still want to add to their squads following promotion. Vaughan played no part in Sunderland’s opening day loss to Fulham, due to suspension.

Some are arguing that we have enough centre midfielders, but could Adkins be tempted to use Vaughan in the hole behind the striker? He has great experience at this level and could offer the midfield something different. It could still be mere paper talk though, so time will tell.
