After 46 league games, we have finally reached the end of the season, and what a season it’s been! But, it’s not over yet….

Our 4-2 victory at Burton yesterday meant that we finished in an impressive third position in the league, which means a play-off campaign to decide which team plays Premier League football next year. Our opponents in the semi-final will be Fulham, with the other semi-final between Huddersfield and Sheffield Wednesday.

An early goal from Joseph Mendes sent the Royals on their way to a seventh victory in ten games, and was doubled with a superb long-range effort from Jordan Obita. Kermorgant scored his 18th league goal of the season after the interval, before Lewis Grabban rounded off the win after Burton threatened a late comeback.

It means we have quite possibly got the hardest draw out of the lot, as we face an in-form Fulham side, who the bookies have as the favourite to make it back to the promised land at Wembley. I’m sure Stam will have plenty to say about that, as will the likes of Carlos Carvalhal and David Wagner, who have earned their right.

The first leg will take place at Craven Cottage on Saturday 13th May 5.30pm KO, and Royals fans won’t need reminding what happened in West London in the league fixture! The second leg will take place at the Madejski Stadium on Tuesday 16th May 7.45pm KO, where in that fixture Reading edged the game 1-0, in what was a tight affair.

Our record in the play-offs isn’t great and the odds are against us, but they have been all season. Let’s have it!
