Reading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy’s operation on his injured shoulder has gone successfully.

The 22-year old injured his shoulder in the final seconds of our 1-1 draw with QPR nearly two months ago, after colliding with the post. A scan revealed extensive damage to his shoulder, but Alex had surgery on Monday to successfully repair the tissue damage.

This means there is a chance that the Reading-academy graduate could make the tail end of the season, after originally being ruled out for the entire 2012/13 campaign. This means Adam Federici is likely to continue in goal for the season, with Stuart Taylor as back-up.
