Reading are considering a move for QPR defender Luke Young, according to the Reading Post.

The 32-year old has only spent a year at Loftus Road but with Hoops boss Mark Hughes planning a big clearout this summer, Young could find himself out of favour. Young has made seven appearances for England during his career and only injury prevented him for being selected in the 2006 World Cup Squad.

Royals boss Brian McDermott is willing to give the former Aston Villa another chance in the Premier League, but to take a wage cut of around £10,000. Although, McDermott is still monitoring the situations of Crystal Palace full-back Nathaniel Clyne and Nottingham Forest right-back Chris Gunter, whom Reading have a bid rejected for last month.

At 32 years of age, would Young be a good signing? Or should we be looking at younger blood such as Gunter and Clyne to mould into good Premier League players?

not a bad player, does pick up a fair share of injuries though

Yeah, he has certainly had his fair share of injuries at every club he has been at. What did you think of him while he was at Villa? Obviously hasn’t got he greatest amount of pace but his experience must be second to none.

He was always dependable when he was at Spurs and my Grandad (Charlton fan) seemed to love him while he was there. Think he’ll do a similar job to what Griff did when he came in. He’s a player with plenty of experience and is well disciplined and it’ll show in the way that he can read a game and keep things safe. You have to worry about how lacking of pace your full backs could potentially be next year though…..

Griffin is a good comparison, got a good one and a half seasons more out of him, he was superb. Agree on the pace aspect though, our current centre backs aren’t the fastest either so we could get exploited hugely by pace.

Well thats where someone like Bassong could come in handy for you. Are there still reports about him being a potential target? McDermott is going to get Jimmy and Jobi to do a lot of tracking and offer as much protection to the full backs as possible if you are going to line up with Harte and Young
