Royals in for Daggers Star

With the imminent departure of Nicky Shorey looming, it appears that Steve Coppell is dreaming big having set his sights on Dagenham & Redbridge left-back Scott Griffiths.

Griffiths has apparently attracted interest from both Reading and Ipswich, and with a left-back looking like a priority for Steve Coppell this seasons, there may well be some truth to the rumour.

The 22-year-old has been extremely impressive for the League Two side, but manager Steve Thompson has announced that there have been no bids for Griffiths.

He said, ‘We have had no offers for Scott or any of our players.`

Thompson, however, went on to concede that should someone come in for the talented full-back, he wouldn`t stand in his way.

He continued, ‘We sell the club to potential signings on the basis that if a club higher up comes in with a reasonable offer then we would not prevent them from furthering their career.`

Griffiths may not be the big-name signing that Royals fans will be hoping for, but if he can make the step-up as Shorey did, then he could be a very good signing for the club.

Surely a club wanting to go straight back upto the Premiership should be looking higher than a 4th Division player!
