Reading failed in an attempt to bring in a new forward to the Madejski Stadium, with Wilfred Zaha and Jordan Ayew the probable targets.

In the build up to deadline day, McDermott was keen to bring in another striker with Jordan Ayew high on his wanted list. The Royals boss was keen to sign the 20-year old forward from Marseille, but the French side wanted a permanent deal worth £4 million, while McDermott was more interested in an initial loan move.

The other forward that Reading were reportedly chasing was Crystal Palace’s Wilfred Zaha. Wigan and Southampton were also keen on the England U21 international, who was available for around £5 million. However, Palace would not accept Reading’s £4 million bid with add-ons, prompting Nicky Hammond to call off the move.
