Reading have been drawn away at Charlton Athletic in the first round draw of the Carling Cup, which will see the Royals travel to the Valley.

It will be played the week commencing the 8th August, likely to be on the Tuesday or the Wednesday.

Ironically enough, the Royals already had a pre-season friendly lined up at the Valley against Chris Powell’s side on the 26th July.

The last time the sides met was in the 2008/09 season when they were managed by former Royals favourite Phil Parkinson, in a game which finished 2-2 at the Madejski Stadium.

At this stage last year, the Royals progressed to the second round after a 1-0 victory over Torquay, thanks to a late winner from Grzegorz Rasiak in extra time.
