With Nigel Adkins having a free weekend with no game, the Reading manager is going to scout some of his potential transfer targets.

The former Southampton manager in the process for formulating transfer plans for the summer and the appropriate areas to strengthen. Adkins is keeping his cards very close to his chest, but it appears he has let one slip, as an approach has reportedly been made for Motherwell winger Chris Humphrey.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, Adkins said: “It`s a great opportunity for us to review one or two targets for the summer. At this stage of the season the recruitment side of things kicks in at all football clubs and that`ll be no different with ourselves. There are plenty of games throughout Europe for us to go and watch.’

‘There`ll be lots of speculation about players coming in, players going out – but we`ll do our business as privately as we cannot getting involved in speculation. Our objective is to get a squad of players next season that will be hungry and harbour a desire to cope with the demands and challenges of the Championship.’

It’s good to see that Adkins is looking abroad too, compared to just fishing around in the lower leagues. The European style probably fits in more with his smooth style of play anyway, so it would be encouraging to see the odd player from abroad to see what they bring to the table.
