Reading manager Brian McDermott has discussed his potential plans for the January transfer window, following a meeting with the owner last week.

McDermott met up with both Russian owner Anton Zingarevich and Director of Football Nicky Hammond last week, where all three of them discussed possible incomings in the January transfer window. With the Royals currently bottom of the table and six points from safety, new recruits next month appear to be high on the agenda.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, McDermott said: ‘Myself, Anton and Nick had a four-hour meeting over the weekend and talked about players coming in. January is difficult, especially if you are where we are in the league. So I can’t see us spending a fortune, I just don’t think it will happen, we have never done that as a club.’

‘We have to find some experience to come through the door. They’re the kind of players we should be going for. There are a lot of clubs nearly going out of business, and the most important thing for us is always Reading Football Club, it has been here since 1871. The owner, Chairman, board and Nick, we are all on the same page.’

As much as we have been slagging off Brian for the past couple of weeks, we can’t dismiss that the players haven’t got the quality to remain in this league. Experienced recruits in January is what we need and Brian needs to make a point in this window, with the summer one being largely unsuccessful with his signings.
