Reading have completed their second signing of the summer, with the free transfer of Newcastle midfielder Danny Guthrie.

The 25-year old agreed terms yesterday at the Madejski Stadium, before penning a three-year deal, which will keep him at the club until 2015. The deal itself will be ratified and completed tomorrow. The former Manchester United trainee is primarily a centre-midfielder, who is also capable of playing on both wings.

Guthrie started his career at Liverpool and even appeared in the Champions League for the Reds back in 2006. Then following loan spells at Southampton and Bolton, he completed a move to Newcastle in 2008. Danny was a regular in the side as he went on to make 92 appearances for the Magpies and scored seven goals in the process.

Guthrie and Pogregnyak 2 very impressive signings…You had to splash the cash on Pog but did very well at Fulham. Few more gems like that and you will have a squad better than the likes of Wigan and Norwich already…

Wish we’d have signed the Pog. The perfect fit for the lane. Looking like you’re shaping up very nicely for you PL return!

Thanks guys, it’s looking like it’s going to be an exciting next few months for us Royals fans. The bookies seem to be writing us off straight away but I personally feel we were better equipped than Southampton anyway and with a few more signings, hopefully can go a bit higher than a relegation dog fight.
