Defender Mills was dismissed in the first half for what was clearly just two players going for a 50/50 ball. Mills did not go in two footed, or indeed with feet off the ground, and he certainly did not go over the top of the ball.

McDermott told the official site after the game, ‘I’ve seen the incident 5 or 6 times, and in slow motion, and it is clearly just two wholehearted players going for the ball. There was no intent whatsoever, it was a fair tackle and we are going to appeal.’

The appeal will need to be lodged by lunchtime on Sunday, meaning Mills can then play against Coventry on Monday, with an appeal heard later this week.

If it unsuccesful however Mills will have to serve a four game ban, as it is his second red card of the season. He was also dismissed away at Doncaster for handball on the line, another harsh decision by referee Keith Stroud.
