Reading had no fewer than eight players on international duty at various levels this midweek, with mixed fortunes for them, and not all featuring.

Stephen Hunt made a substitute appearance for the Republic of Ireland but was sent off in their 1-0 defeat to the Czech Republic, which all but sees them eliminated. Kevin Doyle also played and was denied a goal by the post, and Shane Long came on as a late replacement.

Ivar Ingimarsson played the whole of Iceland’s 2-1 home win over Northern Ireland, a result that almost certainly ends Northern Irish hopes too.

Ulises De La Cruz’s saw his Ecuadorian side lose 2-1 in a friendly with Honduras.

James Henry was called up for England at under 19s level and played and Gylfi Sigurdsson scored a couple of goals for Iceland’s youth side against Scotland.

Nicky Shorey was again not among the substitutes for England’s 3-0 win over Russia.

A mixed bag for Reading this midweek, some good and some bad, but so long as all return unharmed that is the main thing.
