Reading are unsure whether they want to make a permanent move for Hayden Mullins, according to Portsmouth administrator Trevor Birch.

The 33-year old is still contracted to the cash-strapped club, who will be playing their football in League One next season. It is widely expected that Mullins is to leave Fratton Park, along with fellow midfielder Liam Lawrence, who spent the second half of the season on loan at Cardiff.

When speaking to The News, Birch said: ‘There is talk about Liam and Hayden, although the clubs are not falling over themselves to do business. However, there is interest there. At this moment there is nothing concrete on either of them but Cardiff and Reading are watching things.’

Mullins made seven appearances for Brian McDermott’s side, filling in at right-back as well as his natural central midfield role. A move for the Reading-born player could largely depend on McDermott securing his first choice centre-midfield targets in Carlos Sanchez and Robert Koren in the next few weeks.
