Reading Reserves Annihilate Pompey

Reading Reserves easily saw off Pompey in a 6-0 drubbing at the Madejski Stadium last night.

Reading, who named a mixture of squad and youth players, opened the scoring as early as 7minutes into the game and continued to run amuck in front of the Pompey goal until the 85th minute.

January signing Greg Halford opened the scoring when he and Simon Church linked up well, Halford played the ball to Church who`s through ball found Halford running into the six yard box to convert early on.

Sam Sodje battled through a series of challenges to play the ball to Simon Cox who had lost his marker and drove home to right of Pompey`s youthful goalkeeper, Nick Jordan.

Reading absolutely dominated throughout the first half embarrassing an outclassed Pompey side.

From the start of the second half Reading`s hunger for more goals was confirmed when Seol cross found the head of Sam Sodje who delightedly nodded towards the net from 8yards out.

Shane Long added to the tally when he scored a goal almost identical to Sodje`s. Seol again crossed from the left and this time found the head of Long who was too close to miss and more importantly to close to goal to have his effort saved.

Long hit the target again just over 10minutes later; Long nipped in between two defenders and nodded over the onrushing goalkeeper to take Reading to the five mark.

Substitute, Julian Kelly, rubbed salt into Pompey`s wounds in the closing stages by driving a 22yard stunner into the left-hand corner of the net and leaving the match with a final 6-0 scoreline.

Lets hope the first team can be as productive when Pompey visit on the 17th of March.
