Reading remain in race to sign Sigurdsson

Reading have remain firmly in the race to sign Gylfi Sigurdsson, who is set to decide on his future this weekend.

It appears that it has become a three-horse race for the Icelandic midfielder, with Premier League sides Tottenham and Liverpool also perusing an interest. All three clubs have had an offer of £6.8 million accepted by German side Hoffenheim, but Sigurdsson is yet to decide his preferred destination.

Liverpool still appear to be favourites to sign him, despite many media sources claiming the 22-year old could be on his way to White Hart Lane. Sigurdsson’s father, who is also his agent, speaking to Icelandic radio confirmed talks with the Reds but revealed that Gylfi is yet to make a decision on his future.

His father also mentioned how he was disappointed to leave Reading back in 2010, claiming he would like to have stayed for longer. The Reading-academy graduate made 42 appearances for the Royals, scoring an impressive 20 goals. Sigurdsson’s loan spell at Swansea was similarly successful, scoring seven times in 18 games.
