Reading not a Long Ball Team

First of all it was the second season syndrome talk that Steve Coppell had to fend off, now it is accusations that Reading play a long-ball game.

Reading may have played a different than usual game against Derby, but with three points so desperately needed Reading had to do what they had to do but Steve Coppell resents the fact that the club are a long-ball team and the tactics do vary, “We always mix it up,” Steve Coppell told readingfc.co.uk.

“It amazes me, sometimes we are accused of being a long-ball team and then I look at the stats when we played Liverpool.

“I look at the big teams and with the exception of Arsenal, they smash it as much as anybody. Once they get on top, then they start passing it around.

“Arsenal are off the scale, they play totally different football. The best chance the rest of us have in terms of style of play is to try to make sure they play six Englishmen – English players don’t play that way.”

This may just be a case of me being over defensive but it seems that it is a get at Reading season?
