Reading have now lost their first two opening games of the Championship season after falling to defeat against Nottingham Forest, thanks to a winner by Algeria international Hillal Soudani.

A sold-out City Ground endured a pretty quiet first half, with Royals man Yakou Meite arguably having the best chance of the half that was well saved by Costel Pantilimon.

Soudani’s second half strike just before the 70 minute mark sealed the victory for Forest after his left foot shot curled in past Vito Mannone. Yakou Meite again had Reading’s best chance of the second half with a header that went just wide of the post. Neither team managed to carve out too many real chances and so it was unsurprising that this match was decided by a single goal.

The Royals now turn their attention to the Carabao Cup with a home tie against fellow Championship side Birmingham City on Tuesday night in the 1st round of the competition.
