After a disappointing defeat on Saturday, Reading smashed Wednesday on Tuesday.

The Royals were beaten comfortably by Ipswich at Portman Road on Saturday, but bounced bag in style with a six nil drubbing over a poor Sheffield Wednesday side.

Kevin Doyle once again stole the show with his second hat-trick in successive home games. Noel Hunt also shone with a well taken brace and Andre Bikey got on the score sheet as well.

Sheffield Wednesday reportedly had a nightmare journey from Yorkshire to Berkshire and after eight minutes they must have been wishing they hadn’t bothered.

Two goals in three minutes from in-form Kevin Doyle effectively killed the game before it had begun.

Doyle opened the scoring after just five minutes, Noel Hunt making his league debut squared to his fellow Irishman for the striker to slot home from close range.

Just three minutes later Doyle made it two nil, a combination of good work and awful defending saw the ball drop to his feet and with the help of a deflection his shot found the back of the net.

The game was all but over on the half four mark, Cameroon international Andre Bikey heading home a Stephen Hunt free-kick to make it 3-0.

Wednesday could have pulled one back just before the break but Marcus Hahnemann made an excellent save as Reading-born Deon Burton struck a low drive.

The Royals started the second half in the same fashion as the first, Noel Hunt lactching on to a high through ball before slotting calmly passed the approaching Lee Grant on 50 minutes.

Doyle got his sixth goal in two home games on 62 minutes before immediately being substituted with Stephen Hunt, both players earning a standing ovation from the Reading faithful.

Within two minutes of coming on, substitutes Bobby Convey and Shane Long linked up superbly on the left hand side, before Long teed up Noel Hunt for his second and Reading`s sixth of the game.

Long could have got on the score sheet himself moments later, but his header was denied by the crossbar.

The game was a huge contrast to the poor display at Ipswich and the Royals will now look to improve their away form after three successive home victories.
