Reading were again victors in the Championship after beating Charlton 1-0 on Saturday. It was a tough game and far from our best performance and here are the ratings.

Ali Al-Habsi- 7

Al-Habsi was in-goal for the second consecutive game due to Bond’s injury and he kept another clean sheet. The Omani stopper was rarely tested in this encounter and he’ll certainly face tougher tests this season.

Chris Gunter- 7

The ever reliable Gunter came into this one off the back of a historic week with Wales. Gunter put in another solid display at right back and again, barely put a foot wrong. However, Chris didn’t have much to do to say the least.

Paul McShane- 8

Superb from McShane. His calmness on the ball, as well as toughness in tackles and arial battles is a joy to watch. He never fails to impress.

Michael Hector- 7

Michael is full of confidence at the moment and he was solid on Saturday. Due to the lack of attacking threat Charlton had, Hector had a quiet afternoon, but did his job.

Jordan Obita- 8

Obita is getting better with every game. The arrival of Taylor has really got Jordan to the next level and his pace and athleticism helps out our back four massively. Class performance.

Oliver Norwood- 7

It wasn’t Norwood’s best display by any means, but he got stuck in and gave the back four the protection they needed.

Aaron Tshibola- 7

Like Norwood, it was far from his best performance, but his strength and battling helped out the side on Saturday.

Ola John- 6

John’s decision making left a lot to desire in the final third. His pace and power looked promising, but his final ball let him down on many occasions.

Lucas Piazon- 5

Piazon is yet to excite me. He’s struggled in every game I have seen him in and I’m not sure his physicality is up to English football. A frustrating day all in all.

Nick Blackman- 8

Started on the right and struggled to get in to the game. Was then moved up top in the second half and he relished the role. Driving at the defence and causing them problems and then Nick got the all important goal.

Orlando Sa- 7

His held up play is as good as anyone in the league. Never looked like scoring, which is a worry.

Subs:

Danny Williams- 7

Made a difference, adding energy into the midfield. His strength and desire is incredible and it added something on Saturday.

Garath Mccleary- 7

Did more than John and Piazon in the 20 minutes he was on. His pace and relationship with Gunter adds something different to our side.

Alex Fernandez- N/A

Fernandez came on to help keep the ball at the end and it paid off. Didn’t have to do much, but was enough to see the game out.
