The final game of a pretty traumatic season for both sides, sees Reading needing at least a point to have any chance of staying in the division, with even a victory not guaranteeing survival.

Derby are already down, but thanks to some words of encouragement from Reading Assistant Manager Kevin Dillon, the Rams now have something to play for.

Vital Quotes:

Kevin Dillon’s words of wisdom, that for some reason upset Paul Jewell;

‘Let’s put it this way, if we can’t beat Derby, it will be hard to take.

‘They’ve had a bad season. Paul Jewell has gone in there and had massive problems from the start, and they’re going to have the lowest points in the top flight, lower than Sunderland.

‘Pride Park must be a pretty dour place to play for their players.’

Derby Team News:

Derby have a whole host of names back from loan stints and are sweating on the fitness of full back Jay McEveley.

Player to watch: Giles Barnes

Absolutely mustard and one of my favourite players in the league, will probably score the goal to send us down.

Reading Team News:

The Royals are hoping that Glen Little can shake of a calf strain going into this must win game.

Marek Matejovsky will start as the Royals look for all 3 points.

Player to watch: Marek Matejovsky

I’ve said before that he holds the key to our survival. He sees passes that other players don’t and has amazing technique. If he’s on form, Reading will win.

Match Facts & Stats

Reading need to hope that Fulham don’t win at Fratton Park if they’re to have any chance of staying up.

The Royals have gone six games without scoring.

If Reading fail to win, it will be the first time in their history that they’ve failed to do the double over any team in a season.

Mike Riley (Leeds, Yorkshire)

Match Prediction:

I don’t want to call this. My heart says Reading win, but I just can’t see it. I think we’re just going to have to rely on Fulham and Birmingham losing.

My Prediction: Derby 0-0 Reading

  • You may need to win your game & hope we at Pompey hold Fulham. No promises as to which Pompey will turn up. Good luck.

  • I think you lot shud get a result against fulham, I’m just worried about beating derby! B’ham to stay up at 4-1 is starting to look like a good bet…

  • hard luck, hope you guys can come straight back up,Coppell had you playing good football at times, think some of the players thought they were safe a couple of games ago and didn’t expect fulhams surge(who did?)

  • You will. I think that coppell is a good enough manager to sort them out. The players havent played well enough second half of season and they should of realised the danger sooner

  • i’m sorry. we were not good, we did not play as well as we should have, and to be perfectly honest, it seems pretty unfair on you!

  • Thanks pompeycarpet, it should have not gone down to the last game and relying on you guys. We should have realised the danger sooner! Good luck at Wembly Pompy!

  • watched fulham game thought they only played for 5mins and scored but pompey didnt seem to be interested, sorry to see you go , see you next season
