We have had one outgoing loan deal which wasn’t a major surprise, but there is also finally potential of an incoming transfer.

The outgoing is Adrian Popa, who has joined Saudi Arabian side Al-Taawoun on a loan deal until the end of the season. Nothing has been confirmed by the club yet, but the player revealed it via his own social media on Instagram. He still has a further two years on his Royals deal.

The Romanian international has struggled for playing time under Stam, after joining in the January window last season. Despite making a good impression early in the season, the signings of Mo Barrow and Sone Aluko ended any chance of a future at the Madejski for the 29-year old.

While one exits, it seems we finally are getting someone in, but it’s not a striker or a left-back! Sky Sports are reporting that we are close to signing Villa defender Tommy Elphick on loan until the end of the season, as Stam clearly wants to strengthen his defensive options.

The 30-year old joined Villa last season with high hopes, but failed to match up to expectations and has only made six appearances this term. I’m surprised Stam is moving for a centre half, but with Moore possibly off and McShane declining, this could be a smart move in the long-term.
