Alex Pearce believes the Adam le Fondre and Pavel Pogrebnyak partnership up front can blossom to be the best in the league.

The forward duo are set to start today’s game against Millwall, following a good performance in the Doncaster victory last week. The goals from Alfie and big Pav have a combined total of eight goals, meaning they have accounted to around 40% of Reading’s league goals this season, proving their importance so far.

Speaking to the Reading Post, Pearce admitted: ‘Vokes and Ings were the two best I`ve faced this season, they were a real handful. But Pav and Alfie can also be a fantastic combination if they get the games and keep doing what they did on Saturday. I think they can definitely be as good as them, if not better.”

‘Pav’s been putting a lot of work in, both on the training ground and in games. We can see from the stats that he`s been covering a lot of ground and putting in a big shift. That`s helping the team get the results. Alfie`s a defender`s nightmare.’

This was the dreamed partnership at the start of last season in the Premier League, yet never worked out! I still think it is very early days to be talking about a notable functioning partnership, but they are both on form and high on confidence at the moment, so there is no real need to change anything.
