John Oster could be returning to Sunderland for the first time since leaving the club at the weekend, and although he is looking forward to it he is expecting a frosty reception.

The Reading winger left Sunderland under a cloud, finally having his contract terminated after several off the field incidents, including shooting his former team-mate Mark Maley in the eye with an air rifle, which ended his career.

“I haven’t been up to Sunderland with Reading before and I’m looking forward to it,” Oster told the media.

“I’ll probably get a frosty reception because of the circumstances when I left.

“But it will be great to go up there and put one over on them. It’s turned into an important game for both clubs now after the recent results.”

Oster has been struggling with an injury, so it is not yet known if he will be fit anyway. With Seol Ki-Hyeon leaving for Fulham unless Oster is fit that will leave only Liam Rosenior who could play in right midfield, which might open the door to 18 year old James Henry, who has been in brilliant form for the reserves this season, form which has seen him score four goals in two games and earn an England under 19 call-up.

Both teams go into the match off the back of a string of defeats, Reading two in a row, both 3-0, and Sunderland off the back of three straight defeats, so the match is crucial, even at this early stage of the season as both sides desperately need the points.

He has something of a bad boy history doesn’t he, but that seems to be in the past since he came to Reading. He will certainly get a frosty reception from Sunderland though if he plays.
