A piece of magic from Ola John gives Reading three points at bottom side Bolton.

Reading travelled to Bolton knowing a win would all but secure another season in the Championship. They won, but only just.

It was a very muted atmosphere around the ground with Bolton 12 points adrift at the Bottom of the table and it got worse for them when their centre half was sent off after 15 minutes for bringing Vydra down in the box.

The out of form striker stepped up and pathetically passed it to the keeper to keep the scores at 0-0.

Reading now had the task of breaking down the very deep 10 men of Bolton. The away side certainly had the possession, but struggled to create many clear cut chances in the first 45 minutes.

Vydra missed a one on one and a free header before the break as it looked like it was going to be another frustrating afternoon for the forward.

0-0 at half time with Reading having 75% of the ball.

It continued like that for the rest of the game and Reading started to carve out some real chances with 70 minutes gone but hit the post on three different occasions and had a shot cleared off the line.

However, with added time remaining, Substitute Ola John scored an absolute screamer from 30 yards to the relief of the 440 Royals fans including myself.

It was a massive three points, but my word did we make hard work of it.

Reading are now all but safe for another year and now it’s time to show and give us fans something to cheer about.
