West Ham captain Kevin Nolan has admitted the fight for automatic promotion is not over yet, despite the Hammers crucial loss to Reading last Saturday.

Sam Allardyce’s side now find themselves four points off Reading in second spot with just six games left to go. Both the Hammers and the Royals have tough fixtures in those next six, having to face sides in the top ten but Nolan remains adament West Ham are still in contention.

The 29-year speaking to West Ham’s official website said: ‘I’ve not looked at their runs, only at ourselves. We only have ourselves to blame for where we are – no-one else. We have all got to stand up and be counted now, everyone. If we all stick together I’m sure we can all get what we want and that’s to be in the Premier League at the end of the season.’

‘Having gone ahead at home, it was doubly frustrating to lose, especially as we dominated from the first minute until the 40th and the next thing we were 2-1 down going in at the break. It’s something we’ll learn from. We have six games left and we’ve got to win each one of them as they come along and I’m confident we can do that.’

The former Newcastle man is never short of controversy and was a key figure in an obvious dictated manhunt of winger Jimmy Kebe during the game, who caused a stir with his infamous ‘sock’ incident. Nolan also gestured to the Reading’s away contingent when West Ham scored their second goal in the 4-2 win last Saturday.
