A well-taken goal from Danny Guthrie was not enough for Reading to earn a victory in their final pre-season game in Portugal.

The new signing from Newcastle opened the scoring half-way through the first half, after some neat saves from goalkeeper Alex McCarthy. Guthrie showed superb footwork to get away from the Olhanense defenders, before firing home calmly from 8 yards. The Royals were on top against the Portugese top-division side for the majority of the half.

Brian McDermott opted to make nine changes on 60 minutes, but surrendered the lead

on 64 minutes, as Nicky Shorey was judged to have handled on the line. Duarte equalised from the spot, meaning the game finished all square, despite a commanding performance from the Royals. They will now prepare for next Tuesday´s game against Championship side Brighton.

Reading: McCarthy, Cummings (Gunnarsson 60), Pearce (Mariappa 60), Gorkss (Morrison 60), Harte (Shorey 60), Robson-Kanu (Antonio 60), Guthrie, Leigertwood (Tabb 60), McAnuff (Obita 60), Le Fondre (Hunt 60), Pogrebnyak (Church 60)
