Reading captain Graeme Murty received a late called up for the Scotland squad this week, and he marked this return to the international set-up by winning his fourth cap.

Murty had not been in the original squad, but after Gary Naysmith failed a fitness test and Alan Hutton had to withdraw after Scotland’s weekend victory over Ukraine he was called into the squad and started the match with Georgia on Wednesday.

Unfortunately for Murty and Scotland he marked his return to the national game, having not played since May 2006, with a defeat as Scotland crashed to a 2-0 defeat in Tblisi, as Georgia put a spanner in the works of Scotland’s European Championship qualifying hopes.

It was great to see Murty back in the side and I watched the match after work, it was just a shame for him and Scotland that they lost. Hopefully it will not be another year and a half until he plays again.
