According to a report first published on FilGoal.com, Reading have offered the Egyptian international, Amir Azmy, the chance to join the club in January.

The 23-year-old currently playing his football at PAOK Salonika in Greece where the club are forth in the table.

Speaking exclusively with Arabic sports website FilGoal.com, the defender revealed that Reading had approached his club with an offer of £470,000 for the player (?700,000).

‘Reading sent an official offer to PAOK, the offer is worth ?700,000 and they want me to join them in January,” the player told the site.

Azmy said that playing in the Premiership with Reading is a very attractive offer but he was adamant that his loyalties lay with his current employer:

‘Playing in the Premier League is the dream of any footballer,

‘Of course, I would like to play in The Premiership. But if now isn’t the right time, then so be it.

‘I don’t want PAOK fans to think that I am abandoning the team because I love and respect the club and its supporters.
‘PAOK is my home and the place where I became a star.’

Reading FC has yet to confirm or deny whether this is true; the club usually conduct their transfer business in private.

Meanwhile, Reading have been linked with Birmingham stars Matthew Upson and David Dunn.

David Sullivan the co-owner of the club is eager to cash in on the players who are soon out of contract.

Dunn`s contract will be over in June while Upson is refusing to put pen to paper on a new deal.

Newcastle, Liverpool and Spurs join the Royals in the list of names vying for the player`s signatures.

Matthew Upson has featured for the Royals before; he joined the club on loan from Arsenal in the 2002/03 season. The central defender played 13 games while at the Madejski Stadium.
