More excuses for strikers

In true Rafa Benitez style, let me give you a fact – Our strikers have scored 2 goals in a combinded 25 hours on the pitch so far this season. One of them was a penalty from Shane Long and the other was a shot that hit Simon Church and went in, that he knew nothing about about. Yet once again after another abject performance at Brisol City we hear players jumping to their defence.

Jobi McAnuff told the Reading Post, ‘As a whole, we haven’t made enough clear-cut opportunities and it’s something we obviously have to address.’

Whilst Noel Hunt looked lively on his first start in over a year, Shane Long put in a typical performance that involved a lot of hard work but sod all in front of goal. Simon Church came off the bench and missed a sitter yet again, I don’t care who is in goal you should score a free header from 6 yards out. He has missed 2 in 2 games.

We are stuck in a situation where we need to get a striker in quickly, and don’t give me anymore excuses about how there is no one available. There are players available on loan and they cannot do any worse than what we are putting on the pitch right now.

I never thought I would be crying out for Grzegorz Rasiak, but we could do with him right now. And he had one start and one goal this season before he left!
