Money Needs to be Spent (Coppell)

Steve Coppell isn’t one to spend too much in the transfer marker but several times he has confessed that he will need to spend in January, something that he has again admitted.

Currently Reading are five points above the drop zone, and although in reality in terms of points and games things are not quite that different from last season in that respect, in many ways they are and this just reaffirms Coppell’s belief that he needs to buy in January, and he will, “The league table looks okay but, to be honest, it’s not been a very satisfying season so far,” Coppell told the Reading Chronicle.

“We’re not alone in that and there are six or seven other teams near the bottom who must have the same misgivings at the moment. There’s a lot of work to be done.

“Maybe there’s more of a gap between the top and the bottom now. We’re competing against teams who spent £40 million in the summer when there was a real investment surge.

“For logical reasons we decided not to jump on that wagon. But it’s clear that we have to supplement the squad in January. I think that’s become obvious since the start of the season and I very much hope we will do that.”

Players will be signed, and money will be spent, but even though the need is great he will still not entirely abandon his values and will not be held to ransom.
