Millwall are trying to sign defender Shaun Cummings, but his wages are proving a barrier to completing the move.

The 24-year old is yet to have been selected in any of the Royals’ 18-man squads for the league campaign, hinting that Nigel Adkins would allow Cummings to move on. According to NewsAtDen, Reading want Millwall to pay 70% of his wages, which is too high a demand for the Lions.

This means that Steve Lomas may have to offload players before he can match this offer from the Royals. The Millwall based website also reported that Cummings turned down a move to Bristol City recently, wanting to remain in the second tier of English football.

As it stands, Shaun is currently 3rd choice full back, with Gunter and Kelly in front in the pecking order. At the age of 24, he is approaching his peak as a defender and I’m sure he would like more first team football, which I wouldn’t begrudge him for.
