Reading captain Matt Mills is reportedly trying to force his way out of the Madejski Stadium, in a bid to be playing Premier League football this season.

The 6’3 defender has been linked with a handful of Premier League teams including Stoke, Blackburn, Newcastle and most notably Wolves, who recently had a second bid rejected for the former Manchester City player.

The 24-year old has one year left on his current contract with the Royals, believed to be earning around £20,000 a week. He along with some other key players have been offered new contracts with Reading, in an attempt to keep the squad together.

The Berkshire club are believed to be looking for around £4m in exchange for Mills, with Wolves only offering around the £3m mark.

Now Mills has returned from holiday, he is keen to meet Royals boss Brian McDermott and discuss his future, with Mills’ preference being in the Premier League.

Josh and other Royals. How highly do you rate the player? and what do you believe would be a fair price. Always becomes difficult for the club when a player pushes for a move, if he has done that (sounds like he has.) Do you hold the player to his contract and lose him for nothing next year? Some Wolves fans are cautious about this one as he has not played at PL level- do you think he is ready to make the step up? Be glad to hear from you- drop by Vital Wolves and let us know your thoughts. All the best for next season.

Hi NYCW. Personally, I do rate Mills highly. He has come along so well the past few months, as before he showed some signs of vunrability but apart from that, top class. Big, strong and has that crucial element of aggression that the best centre halfs have. Also a fantastic leader on the pitch, I’m still suprised he hasn’t struck a referee yet considering how much he argues with them! On your point of making the step up, I’m not sure. I suppose he is at the tender age of 24, when I would say the majority of centre backs reach their peak at around the 30 mark so its about giving him time. At this moment in time I don’t think he is ready but in a few years time, I think the Prem could come as bread and better to him. I think the £4m valuation is fair considering he is our captain and such a key player.

If you do sign him, I wish him and you guys the very best of luck this season. I think I am one of the only people that rates Mick McCarthy as a manager, very shrewd man. Glad to see Doyler and Hunt doing well for you guys!

Thanks Royal and appreciate the best wishes. Hoping you guys can make the step up next season but there’s a lot of interest in your players this summer? Your summary matches the fears of many a Wolves fan in that we would be taking a gamble on a player without PL experience when mistakes cost us so dearly last season. We really do need a talker or a shouter at the back aswell and the aggressive nature would do us well. Our captain, Karl Henry- I would not let him lead a day trip to the park let alone a football team. We need two central defenders- the other names we are being linked with are Johnson and Bassong who are each worth up to 8 million on todays market- I can’t see us signing both so I imagine we will press on for Mills especially as we seem the only club aside from Leicester who are putting bids on the table? There just appears to be a dead lock at the moment and it is a tough call asto whether Wolves will pull the plug on the deal or Reading will drop their valuation somewhat. Again, many thanks for the low down on the player and all the best for next season.
