Mills to keep armband

Whilst other’s were reporting that club captain Ivar Ingimarsson was missing at Palace through illness, Vital Reading correctly reported that he was left out in favour of a Mills/Khizanishvili centre back partnership. That will continue at Blackpool this weekend, meaning Matt Mills will again captain the side as Brian McDermott continues to make big decisions for the sake of the team.


Mills himself is delighted to be skippering the side and wants to keep the armband for the rest of the season, and beyond. He told the Reading post, “I think the added responsibility will bring the best out of me and I would love to keep hold of the armband until the end of the season. The manager called me into his office on Tuesday, sat me down and told me the news. I`m really honoured to take on the role and being a club captain one day is a big goal of mine.’


Whilst Ingimarsson has long been a fans favourite he has been no where near his best and with issues still continuing with regards to a new contract, his best days at the club could well be behind him. Matt Mills is the future and his fist pumping at the end of the win over Palace was fantastic – just what I want to see from a captain!


Since he returned to the starting 11 at the start of January, he has looked more and more like the player we paid nearly £2million for in the summer and is thriving under the stewardship of McDermott.
