Reading captain Matt Mills has rejected the club’s latest contract offer, sparking speculation he could well be on his way out of the Berkshire club.

The Daily Mail has claimed that Leicester have met the Royals £4m valutaion price of their star defender and will offer Mills a bumper contract, earning around £25,000 a week.

We reported yesterday that Stoke had joined the bidding for the former Manchester City player, while Leicester had joined the race to sign him.

Sven Goran Eriksson is keen to add to his squad that has already seen Neil Danns, Lee Peltier and Kasper Schmeichel arrive at the Walkers stadium.

It is also believed Leicester are close to sealing the signing of Peterbrough’s Craig Mackail-Smith, who was a previous Royals target.

Despite Mills claiming he is happy at the Madejski Stadium and enjoys being club captain, his future remains very unclear with his contract running out next summer. He has refused to hand in a transfer request but its believed he is keen on a move to the Premier League.

If he wants to join a Premier League club then fair enough, I would wish him the best of luck but to move to Leicester would in many fans eyes, be a sideway step for Mills.
