McDermott turns down Wolves in favour of new deal

Reading manager Brian McDermott has turned down Wolves and decided to stay with the Royals, signing a new three-year contract.

The 50-year old was the Premier League’s side number one choice to replace Mick McCarthy but Reading’s new Russian owner Anton Zingarevich was keen to keep McDermott, following the progress he has made at the Madejski Stadium in the past two years.

However, the former Slough boss has rejected the chance to manage in the Premier League and will sign a new three-and-a-half year deal with the Royals, after only being on a one-year rolling contract. If Brian does achieve promotion, a substantial bonus will be awarded too.

The club have left many people in the dark over this advancement from Wolves, which has left many fans angered. Although it has not officially been confirmed by the club, the Reading Post and other sources have stated the same reports.

McDermott has received many plaudits for the job he has done with the Berkshire club, leading them to ninth in his first season in charge and a play-off final the season following. The Royals currently find themselves in fourth place, just five points off the automatic promotion places with a game in hand.
