McDermott returns with a win- Report

An unbelievable strike for Danny Williams lead to a much needed win for The Royals and McDermott in his return.

McDermott’s first team selection in his second spell saw two changes. Stephen Quinn and Robson Kanu came in for the injured Taylor and Ferdinand.

Bond was in goal. There was a back four of Gunter, McShane, Hector and Quinn. Mccleary and Blackman were the two wingers, with Norwood and Williams in the middle. This left Robson-Kanu supporting Vydra up front.

Brian’s second spell was just eleven minutes old when Danny Williams scored a goal of the season contender with a dipping volley from a tight angle.

This came after Blackburn started brightly, missing to golden opportunities from great deliveries.

Reading then got a foot hold in the game and started knocking the ball around nicely.

There were constant nearly moments for Reading and Vydra and Kanu were continually finding space but failed to carve out any real chances.

The first half petered out and The Royals went in 1-0 up.

McDermott made a tactical change at the break, bringing on Piazon in place of Vydra.

With 48 minutes on the clock, Williams again let fly from long range but it was well saved from Steele in the Blackburn goal.

Reading now started to dominate and created some chances. Mccleary, Kanu and Blackman then all saw shots at the near post comfortably saved by the busy keeper.

Jordan Rhodes then had a fantastic chance and one you’d expect the prolific Striker to bury but he uncharacteristically struck way over.

Brian then made his second change bringing on Ola John for Mccleary and Ola made an instant impact.

John beat his man down the left on a number of a occasion with quick feet and hit two firm strikes only for Steele to keep them out on both occasions.

With Reading continuing to pile pressure on the visitors, it was Norwood’s chance to take aim but a great defences block deflected it wide for a corner.

When four minutes of added time were held up by the fourth official, it was squeeky bum time for Brian and his players.

Blackburn started to pile players forward and the home side needed keeper, Jonathan Bond to pull off a a save from point blank range.

A massive three points for Reading and Brian on his return.
