Reading manager Brian McDermott has praised his team’s overall discipline this season, especially in their most recent game with Leeds.
The 51-year old witnessed his side pick up a 2-0 victory over Leeds without picking up a single card, despite the Royals being on the end of some bad challenges from the visitors. Along with Cardiff, Reading are also the only side in the Championship to not receive a red card this season.
McDermott told Sky Sports News: ‘It’s their discipline, it’s what they do and they are the ones who deserve the credit for that. You know we can talk about discipline – last season we got fined for an incident at Cardiff which we felt a little bit wronged by but we’ve moved on from that and our discipline this season has been a real credit.’
‘We’ve got disciplined players. It’s not about what I do – these guys are tough guys, they can look after themselves and they do the right things.I thought our discipline was excellent against Leeds and it has been all season. But that discipline is from within, they want to win games and they are putting themselves on the line all the time.”
The former Slough manager leads his team into tomorrow’s game against Brighton knowing that a win would extended the gap between them and West Ham to six points. It is the first time the Royals have ever played at the Amex Stadium and will be backed by 2,500 fans in this crucial game.
