Reading manager Brian McDermott has openly praised his captain Jobi McAnuff and his leadership qualities during this fantastic run of form.

The 30-year old was appointed captain at the start of the season following the depature for Ivar Ingimarsson, with many fans questioning this move by McDermott. However, McAnuff has certainly grown into the role and put in a worthy man-of-the-match performance against Blackpool on Saturday.

McDermott told the official site: ‘I know what he gives to the team and the players, the staff. He was terrific and leads by example. I just knew how much he wanted to be captain as well. A winger being captain is unusual but he’s justifying that decision and is very, very popular in the dressing room.’

Jobi has a huge amount of experience in the Championship but is yet to play in the Premier League during his eleven year career. He has made 108 appearances for Reading, which is the highest amount of appearances he has made for a club in his career. McAnuff has also scored 13 goals in his tenure at the Madejski Stadium.
