With Matt Mills suspended, manager Brian McDermott brought in Alex Pearce to the starting line up for his first game since December and he was full of praise for the youngster.

He told the Official Site after the game, ‘I thought Pearcy was outstanding, he’s come in for his first game in a long while and I think he has learned a lot while he has been out of the team.’

With the Bluebird’s having some of the best strikers in the division, Pearce had to be at the top of his game. McDermott continued, ‘He was playing against top class strikers and he won his headers and tackles. The whole back four put their bodies on the line and that gives you a chance of doing something in the game.’

McDermott was also delighted to hear that Mills had opted to watch the game in with the away fans, and that really pleased our manager.

‘I didn’t know he was sat in their but it is very nice, and it shows what this club is about when the skipper is sat in with the supporters. I really like that!’

Ok, so we didn’t get three points but I was really pleased with the performance and we could have easily got the win on another day. The positive buzz around the club is continuing, role on Newcastle on Tuesday night.

I’ll be honest, Im not Pearce’s biggest fan but he did well yesterday. Tuesday night against Newcastle will be a much tougher test for him though…
