Reading boss Brian McDermott is reportedly interested in signing Colchester United defender Magnus Okuonghae.

The 6’3 Nigerian missed the majority of last season for the U’s with a blood flow problem in his foot. However, previous performances have gained many plaudits and has worn the captains armband on many occasions at the Colchester Community Stadium.

East Anglian Daily Timees has stated Colchester owner Robbie Cowling has reiterated there have been no bids for the former Dagenham and Redbridge man, despite interest being high in the man Colchester fans nickname ‘Beast’.

Okuonghae has spent the majority of his career in the lower leagues in the Conference but was given his chance by Dagenham and Redbridge.

There has been lots of other interest in the 25-year old defender, with fellow Championship side Ipswich interested and Charlton reportedly already making an offer.

With the Royals in need for centre-backs following the departure of Ivar Ingimarsson, Turkey-bound Zurab Khizanishvilli and with interest high in captain Matt Mills, it could be a good piece of business from McDermott. Again, dipping into the lower leagues, which has proved successful for the club over many years.
