The Royals were denied three points late on against West Brom on Saturday but Brian McDermott was happy to have got a draw against one of the divisions best teams.

He told the Reading Post, ‘I think it’s a point gained, West Brom scored late on but we’ve done that against enough sides ourselves this season. The players gave absolutely everything again. They’re a quality side and it was a great game. There were two good teams pushing for the win and the crowd were really involved on both sides. I said to the players it just shows how far they’ve come. We have come a long way in a short space of time.’

Many fans felt referee Andy D’Urso made a number of poor decisions that cost us the chance to win the game but in typical McDermott fashion he focused on the positives.

‘What’s the real point talking about it all? It’s swings and roundabouts on both sides and I don’t want to come across as whinging. You can’t change it.’

The draw was the third of three tough games in the space of a week, also including a draw with Middlesbrough and a win over Leicester, and getting 5 points was a fine return form a difficult run of fixtures.

‘We’ve come away with five points from three tough fixtures and it could well have been seven, we could have won this game.’

Attentions now turn to the busy Easter schedule and the players will be pleased to have a midweek without a fixture this coming week. With Ipswich and Coventry to come next weekend thoughts of the play offs still remain, even if they are faint!
