McDermott ecstatic with Foxes performance

Reading boss Brian McDermott has stated his pride in his teams performance against big-spenders Leicester City which saw them win 2-0 thanks to goals from Noel Hunt and Hal Robson-Kanu.

McDermott felt his side run out comfortable winners. He said: ‘I thought it was a thoroughly-deserved win. We were well organised and passed the ball well and stuck to our game-plan.’

‘It was never going to be easy coming here. There’s a lot of expectation here – you can smell that. It was always going to be difficult to come here and win today so we are delighted with the three points and a clean sheet to boot.’

The Royals boss also had reserved praise for striker Mathieu Manset who caused the Foxes defence a variety of problems throughout the game. McDermott said: ‘Manset did very well. He’s a young lad at 22 years of age. He’s very, very strong and he’s got real talent.’

‘He’s worked really hard during the summer. He’s getting fitter every day and we have got high hopes for him. He’s a really popular lad within the group and I thought he did really well today.’

Foxes boss Sven-Goran Eriksson in contrast was far from happy with his teams showing. The former England boss said: ‘We were very, very poor and it is frustrating for everyone. For the players and squad we have we have to do much better – there is no doubt about that.’
