Reading manager Brian McDermott is delighted to be have secured the signing of Danny Guthrie, emphasising his Premier League experience.

The 25-year old signed a three-year contract yesterday at the Madejski Stadium and admitted himself that it wasn’t a hard decision to join the Royals. Guthrie has played in the Premier League for the majority of his career, but only fell out of favour at Newcastle last season, due to the impeccable form of Cheich Tiote and Yohan Cabaye.

Speaking to the official Reading FC website , McDermott said: ‘We’re delighted Danny is signing for us. He’s brings good experience at a good age, he has real ability to pass the ball, he’s got energy, he’s hungry and is what Reading is all about. We’re looking to add players who we think will be good for us over a number of years, not just next season.’

Guthrie himself commented by saying: ‘It feels brilliant to have everything agreed, it is a great honour and I am very excited. As soon as I met the manager and Nick Hammond my mind was made up, it was a no-brainer. Reading Football Club is a fantastic family club, well run and I’m so excited to be part of something special for this club.’

He’s not really set the Prem alight before, but he has been there and seen it. Not 100% convinced he’s a great signing for you myself, but I’ll be happy if i’m proved wrong!

I’ve personally never seen him play, but a lot of Newcastle fans seems to rate him. After watching a few videos of him, seems he has a good set piece delivery and can pick a good pass on occasions.
