Reading boss Brian McDermott did not mince his words when speaking about the first half performance at Eastleigh, which saw the Royals fall apart and concede 3 goals in 15 minutes.

The Royals eventually lost the game 3-2 despite an improved performance in the second half from a different team. A match report can be found here.

McDermott told the RFC official website: ‘First half we didn’t look like a Reading side, and I said to the players in the dressing room that there are consequences for every game that you play, whether it`s at Eastleigh in July or Wembley at the end of the season.’

The Reading boss went onto add: ‘The good thing to come out of the game was the second half, and we got through the match as a group fitness-wise which was important.’

Performances to highlight were the contributions of young midfielders Jake Taylor and Jordan Obita, with striker Gozie Ugwu scoring a goal in his first game for the Royals since signing a professional deal.

In other news, the home game with Southampton due to take place on 22nd October has now been chosen for Sky TV coverage and will now kick off at 5.20.
