Reading manager Brian McDermott has spoke of how his side deserved to win all three points in their 1-1 draw with relegation candidates Doncaster.

The side currently in 22nd place proved themselves to be a very decent outfit but needed the heroics of goalkeeper Karl Ikeme to keep them in the game. Kyle Bennett gave Dean Saunders’ side the lead on 24 minutes, before Alex Pearce equalised just after the break.

McDermott told the official RFC site: ‘We weren’t quite ourselves, we didn’t really take enough responsibility, but we still looked dangerous every time we put a ball into the box. The second half, you saw a great response. We got an early goal, but it was just baffling that we didn’t win the game.’

‘I thought we could have been three or four up in the first half, despite not playing particularly well. Ian Harte’s delivery was top drawer, it’s really difficult to defend against that kind of left foot. But the most important thing when you’e in this sort of situation is to get some kind of result, and we definitely got that today.’

The draw pushed Reading into second spot in the Championship and just two points off league leaders Southampton. Once again, it is a quick turn around for the Royals as they now travel up north once again to face an inconsistent Barnsley side, who find themselves in 17th place.
