I think it is fair to say that the Royals put in a pretty poor first half display at Wycombe on Saturday, but manager Brian McDermott was pleased with the way we responded in the second period. He told the Official Site,

‘I wasn’t happy with the first half at all, we were nowhere near ourselves, but it came out alright in the end’

McDermott admitted that he had to have words with the players at the interval and credited them for their response. ‘Credit to the players, we turned it round in the second half and we were much much stronger.’

He was also full of praise for the youngsters who came on a made a big impact, including Hal Robson Kanu who scored the winner.

‘I though the young subs who came on made a difference, Jake Taylor and Michail Antonio and obviously Hal scored.’

With such a small squad it is vital that these youngsters perform as they will no doubt be needed.
